The Broadland Flood Alleviation Project

The Broadland Flood Alleviation Project (BFAP) is a unique 20-year scheme to mitigate the impact of climate change by improving and maintaining 240 km of flood defences within the Norfolk Broads, one of Europe’s most important wetland areas. Jacobs was lead consultant, working in an integrated team with the Environment Agency and BAM Nutall. In 2021 the project came to its 20th and final year of implementation, and has achieved its objectives of protecting homes and farmland from flooding. The project has also protected and improved the habitat for rare and endangered species.
